"Descendants of John and Abigail Thurlo". Known as "Ed".

1870 CENSUS: MO,Livingston Co-Fairview Twp: 22 Oct: Edward E Thurlo age 8 bn Missouri, son of David M and Araminta Thurlo

MG,DTH: #1 and #2 wife - "Descendants of John and Abigail Thurlo".

NOTES: Little is known about the life of Edward except that he lived in Duncan
Oklahoma for part of his life. Reported to have been a Deputy US
Marshall, but the US Marshall's office in Wash DC have no record, which is not
uncommon. It was also suggested he could have been a special deputy hired for a
specific service. Tom Lilly, his superior, had authority to do that and for as
long as he needed. May have been some records in Ardmore, OK.
There are several stories from Stephens Co, OK regarding the shooting
and killing of Edward by Dave Putty, a territory outlaw. 2nd wife was pregnanat
with Eddie. He was either shot in the back or when he tried to arrest Putty, he
shot him. Apparently a doctor was summoned from Paris, Texas, but he died of
his wounds very shortly.

"Descendants of John and Abigail Thurlo". Author, Emmett is descendant of
this line.

1870 CENSUS: MO,Livingston Co-Fairview Twp: 22 Oct: William H Thurlo age 2 bn Missouri, son of David M and Araminta Thurlo

MG,DTH: "Descendants of John and Abigail Thurlo". William Harry of Scottsville
Sullivan Co, MO when married by B Langdon, JP.

NOTES: "Descendants.." think Harry left on farm when father went to Oklahoma or
stayed when father came to get Mary Belle. After married, moved to
Stephens Co, Ok to or near Comanche, 9 mi south of Duncan. They operated a
boarding house near the RR depot in Comanche. Emmett remembers the boarding
house "counter" desk in the lobby. Harry was a City Marshall and later a town
constable. He always cleaned his gun, a nickle-plated 38, before going on
duty. Everyone in Comanche knew him and like him. He was involved in several
gun fights as a law man and was reported to have chased 2 robbers in his model
T until their horses gave out and made them walk back to town.
In their later years, both he and his wife, Annie, became feable and
were put in St Hospital at Norman Ok, where they died.

"Descendants of John and Abigail Thurlo". Known as "Walt".

MG: #2 wife-IGI Batch 8583023. #1, #2 mgs- "Descendants of John and Abigail
Thurlo".

DTH: "Descendants of John and Abigail Thurlo".

NOTES: Thinks he was probably born near Avalon, Mo in Fairview TWP, Livingston
County as David and Araminta lived there in 1870. His mother apparently
died shortly after he was born. His father married a widow and that lasted
only a short time. Lived in Duncan, OK in a dugout and farmed, hunted and
father taking jobs to survive.
When Walt 15 he left home and took work as a cowpuncher for several
different ranches with his coal black curly hair (called him "Curly"). In
later years he would gather his family around the hearth and tell harrowing
stories of bullies, gunmen and bad cattle stapede he was in before 18 yrs old.
In 1889 Walt and some friends decided to "make a run for some land". He
did file on some land but didn't keep the taxes paid up (probably near Arapaho
OK, as one of his children born there).
He married Maggie and had 2 children, moved from Ok after 1900 and may
have lived in Sweetwater Tx for awhile before moving on to Quay co, New Mexico.
Maggie died and Walt married Mary Elizabeth Buckner.
Walt was granted a patent for 160 acres in Quay Co 6 Jul 1908. Another
120 acres was granted 6 Apr 1920. He sold both parcels and 160 acres
inhereted from father to Kinkead on 19 Oct 1920. He then moved to Zuni Mtns in
McKinley Co with 2 covered wagons, 13 horses, a pen full of chickens, a dog, 4
children and a wife 6-months pregnant". She almost lost her life when the
wagon she was driving overturned.
Walt filed on 640 acres next to oldes son Mike who had preceeded him by
3 years. They lived that winter with MIke and his family while houses and
barns were being built. They farmed until a draught hit and Walt logged when
meager farm crops just about wiped out their savings. A forest fire wiped out
the business and in 1924 the family moved to Breece for about a year, then on
to Farmington in Sep 1926. Walt worked as a rock mason, apple picker or
whatever he could find to provide. He reportedly had a leg severely crushed by
a log but refused to let it be amputated. He recovered although he walked with
a slight limp the rest of his life. In later years he made knieves from old
saw blades for pocket money.
He was a gentle man who loved his family and thaught them to be totally
honest and tell it like it was. His wrath was much more severe if he found
that the truth had been skirted.

"Descendants of John and Abigail Thurlo". Known as "Dot".

1870 CENSUS: MO,Livingston Co-Fairview Twp: 22 Oct: Infant [David Oscar] age 0/12 bn Missouri, son of David M and Araminta Thurlo

MG,DTH: "Descendants of John and Abigail Thurlo".

NOTES: Lived in Stephens Co, OK with father until married. Father lived with him for a time after they married. Dot was reported hunting prairie chickens, packing them in lard and shipping them to Kansas City for a living. He is known to have owned and sold land in OK of the Washita River. He was in
Arapaho in 1895-96 and probably father too, since they tended to stick together.
Dot went to AZ 3 times before moving his family to Thomas AZ in 1905. Father may have lived there too before going back to New Mexico. David bought 160 acres of land with a big house for $3000 on the Gila River. With heavy rains and no flood control, the house flooded as the river changed its course. He traded his property for a good saddle horse and opend a general store in Ft Thomas, then he bough back the property for less than $100 back taxes and sold it to the McCuan cattle ranchers so their catte could get to the river to drink. The land was all sand and salt cedar and no good.
Dot homesteaded on 160 acres where Goodyear, AZ is now. He sold the property and moved to Miami, Gila, AZ, selling it to move to Phoenix to sell cotton. During WWI they moved to Young, Gila, AZ for "good living" and to "get away from the war and the flu". He filed more homesteads in Young on Cherry Creek, later moving to Globe, Gila, AZ, and finally settled in Phoenix to sell chickens and turkeys until they were 90 yrs old

"Descendants of John and Abigail Thurlo" Called "Belle".

MG,DTH: "Descendants of John and Abigail Thurlo".

NOTES: Mary Belle was born to David and second wife, a widow, who left him and the baby. He life was spent with a relative (probably Aunt Pink), then a friend (Hiram Tipton near Reger, MO) for nine years. Her father came to bring her back to Duncan, OK in 1888, where he and some of the boys were surviving in
Indian Territory, farming and living in a dugout. There she met and married Clabe Dirickson and had four children before moving to Globe, AZ to help build the Roosevelt Dam. After one more child they left Arizona and went back to Indian Territory. (unsure of where father and Dot are at this time) They settled in the western part of the state for awhile. About 1907 (made a state) they moved by covered wagon to Rogers Co, OK. They acquired some land near Claremore, Rogers Co and sold sandrock for the building of the Will Rogers Memorial fence.
Belle was a hard-working pioneer and always had a kind word to say about anyone. In later years she always had her childen, grandchilren and neighbor's children about her. Stangers could not have guessed which were hers. She loved them all.

MG: "Descendants of John and Abigail Thurlo". Married in Duncan, Ok and moved
to Jamesport, MO.

NOTES: She was a frequent visitor of her half-sister Mary Belle, and Mary Belle
called her Ina. Lila Lister remembers visiting her and staying at the St
James Hotel in Jamesport, Missouri. It is suspected that James and Ina lived in
Oklahoma for some time before moving to Missouri.
