NOTES: Biography of Joseph Henry Owen by dau Luella O Lambert, Rawson-Coffin Family Book, pg 117:

My father, Joseph Henry Owen, was born Oct 14 1857 at Ogden,Weber,Utah, son of James Colegrove and Sariah Rawson Owen. He spent his boyhood days there in Ogden, attending the public schools and Weber Academy. He taught classes here during his last year under Professor Moench.
At the age of 14, he was self-supporting. His first place of employment was at the Ogden Broom Factory. We went to work as an Engineer for the railroad in 1882. His train was a helper train from Beaver Canyon - going through Camas, Idaho (lg thriving mining town at the time).
It was here that he met mother, Mary Abigail Grow, whom he married Aug 5 1883, the marriage being solemnized at the Logan Temple. She was the daughter of William Moyer and Esther Hunt Coffin Grow and born at Huntsville, Weber, Utah.
Because railroading took Father away from home so much they decided to homestead a farm. In 1889, with their two small children, Mary Ethel and Charles Henry, they went to South Iowa, Bingham Co, Idaho and here they homesteaded a quarter section of land.
Four of father's brothers, William, Albert, Nathaniel and Daniel, also homesteaded each a quarter section. This was later known as Ammon and later, through division, the county was named Bonneville.
Father never liked farming. 10 years after moving to Ammon, he went to Ogden to try to get back working for the railroad, but he would have had to start from the bottom all over again. He did not want to do that, so he returned them to Ammon and stayed with the farm.
Father drove the first buggy out of Idaho Falls. Ethel says she still remembers the day he came home from town, driving the buggy, a shiny new one.
He was a quiet, unassuming man, never given to temper or harsh words. In 1891, he was set apart as Ward Clerk of Ammon and in September of 1899, he was set apart as First Counselor to Bishop Christian Anderson of the Ammon Ward.
He was also Clerk of the Ammon School Board and Justice of the Peace. He still held all of these positions at the time of his death, which occurred April 18, 1902. He was a High Priest. He had been released as Ward Clerk.
In the spring of 1902, father was preparing wheat for his spring planting. He had not done any hard work all winter. It was strenuous work, lifting bags of wheat into a barrel of vitroil and then out onto a platform. He went to bed, having eaten a hearty supper and apparently well, but lifting the bags had ruptured a blood vessel, causing a Cerebreal Hemmorage.
He never regained consciousness and died forty-eight hours later, leaving a widow and seven living children. The youngest child of the family was born five months after his death. This child was Goldie Alverda. Three children had preceded him in death, the first child having been born prematurely.
The Ammon school was closed during the funeral, so the school children could attend. They all marched in and past the casket. He was buried April 21, a cold, windy day.

1928 50th WED ANN: Post Tribune, Jeff City Monday, Oct 8, 1928 - 50th Wed Anniversary: "Mr and Mrs Conrad Wagner, 623 East High Street, pioneer residents of this section, are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary today. Members of the family have arrived here from various parts of the country, and a banquet this evening at the Missouri Hotel conclude the day's celebration.
Mr and Mrs Wagner, aged 79 and 70 years respectively, have lived in Jeff City a greater part of their married life and head one of the most prominent families of this section.
Seven children were born: Otto and George, twins, died when three months old. The others were Adolph, Edwin, Frieda, Emil and Paul. The first three are married. There is one grand daughter, Miss Ruth, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Adolph Wagner of Jefferson City. Mr and Mrs Edwin Wagner reside in St Louis, Mr and Mrs Wm Herfurth reside in Boise Idaho, as does Emil Wagner. Paul resides in Marshfield, Oregon.
Mr Wagner was born May 1, 1849, nine miles east of Jefferson City near Schuberts, where his father and grandfather settled in seven years before. The National Highway which was then just being completed, ran through this farm. Mr Wagner assisted his father in farming and in the brewery business which they had established on the farm. They resided there until 1870, when they left the farm to come to Jefferson City where they purchased the old Gundlefinger Brewery. The Brewery was then conducted under the name of the C and L Brewery Company until sold to the Moerschel brothers in 1892.
During the years in the brewery the Wagners installed the first ice plant in Central Missouri. They later entered business in Colorado Springs, and in 1902 engaged in the lumber business in Missouri and Arkansas.
Mr Wager was prominent in the progress of Jefferson City in the early days. For twelve years, 1896 to 1908, he served as a stockholder and director of the First National Bank. He was greatly interested in any activities for the advancement of the city and was connected with many such movements. He retired from active business, however, twenty years ago.
Mrs Wagner, nee Theresia C Walther, was a daughter of Mr and Mrs Albert Walther and was born at the farm home near the mouth of the Moreau, January 8 1858. She spent her early years on the farm there and was educated in the schools in Jefferson City.
They were married Oct 8, 1878, the wedding taking place on the Moreau and was one of the largest affairs of its kind in those days. Hundreds of relatives and other acquaintances attended from Cole and Osage Counties.
The two well known residents, although advanced in age, are active and in exceptionally good health. Mr Wagner finds time to take frequent trips through the woodlands near here on hunting expeditions. He is one of the most ardent squirrel hunters in the section. Mrs Wagner keeps busy with her house work which gives her great enjoyment.
Hundreds of congratulations were extended to them today by friends in Jeff City and surrounding communities.
All the living children are here for the celebration."

Directory of Jefferson City and Cole County, pg 374: Conrad Wagner was born on a farm near Osage City, this county, May 1, 1849, acquiring his early education in the district school nearby. He later attended Jones' Commercial College, St Louis, graduating in the class of 1869, from where he returned to the home of his father George Wagner, and later removed to Jefferson City. Here he worked in the brewery his father had recently purchased from John Gundlefinger, continuing here until his father retired from business in 1887, when he, in partnership with his brother, Lawrence, operated the brewery successfully until 1892, when it was disposed of to the present proprietors, the Moerschel Brothers. He then engaged in the wholesle wine, beer and liquor business in Colorado Springs, being associated in this business with his brother, Lawrence, and in which he still retains his interest, his brother looking after the business. In addition to this and other property interests in Jefferson City, Mr Wagner is a stockholder in the First National Bank, of which he is a director.
He was united in marriage October 8, 1878, to Theresa C., daughter of Albert Walther, a prominent farmer near Ewing Station. To this union have been born four sons and one daughter: Adolph L is a druggist with G A Fischer; Edwin L is also a druggist in the employ of J L Wright; Miss Frieda is at school in Colorado Springs; Emil and Paul are home. Mr Wagner is a member of the Evangelical Central Lutheran church. His business movements in life have been attended with uniform financial success, and , as a result, he is now able to live in comparative retirement, although still in the prime of life. His home is 113 West Ashley Street.
