1851 England Census of Ringwood, Hampshire, England and Charles Harder
Charles is an inmate in the workhouse, or "house of Industry" on Ashley road. He was only seven years old when both parents died. Now, five years later, he is found a pauper in the local workhouse. By the year of his birth, almost half of the workhouse population of 97,000+ consisted of children.
