1885 Court Case for Scharre family
Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky
Courier-Journal newspaper
Tuesday, 28 May 1885
ALL ON ACCOUNT OF A DOG
A Sunday battle between John Haley and Frank Scharre was investigated in the City Court, the details of which were very interesting, and the inability of Haley to restrain himself and let his attorney conduct the case caused considerable mirth. He had Scharre and his father and mother and Fred. Zabell arrested and mounted the stand and made out a terrible case against them.
... Frank Scharre had been at Frankfurt for three weeks
... Haley replied by proxy through a pistol. The bullet did not strike Scharre
... Mr. and Mrs Scharre were discharged at Haley's cost
... Haley was given a $15 fine to meditate on. His irrepressibility during the trial came near causing the court to fine him for contempt
