1802 "Churching" of the Wife of John Harper

Rachel, John Harper's wife, lost a son on May 18 1802. On May 26 1802 she went St Lawrence Church for a cleansing ceremony called "Churching of Women." It is a ceremony given after childbirth that includes thanksgiving for her survival. It "is performed even when a child is stillborn, or has died unbaptized." (Wikipedia)
