Orville Louis Polly 1906 - 1971

Long Beach, Calif. Graveside services for Dr. Orville L. Polly, former resident of Utah who died Sunday in Long Beach, will be held Thursday at 11:00 am in the Provo City Cemetery.
Dr. Polly was born 10 September 1906 to Rollo Edward and Elsie Schaefer Polly in Clay Center, Nebraska. He came to Provo in 1931 to study at Brigham Young University where he met his wife, Caroline Scorup. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 29, 1934.
Dr. Polly received his B.A. and M.A. at BYU, and after marriage lived in Baltimore, Md where he received his Phd from Johns Hopkins University. In 1936 They moved to Long Beach. At the Union Oil Company in California, Dr. Polly developed several patents in chemistry, geophysics and acoustics. He pioneered in noise control in oil drilling. He was active in various service clubs and scientific societies.
A member of the LDS Church, he most recently served as counselor in the bishopric of the Long Beach 4th Ward.
Survivors include his widow in Long Beach, three children, Mrs. Howard E. Sandberg, Pullman, Washington; Julie Ann Polly and Kenneth E. Polly of Long Beach; two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Cal (Ruth) Bee, Orem; Mrs. Glen W. Stanley, Lomita, Calif; Kenneth R. Polly, Lafayette, Calif and 4 grandchildren.
