December 12, 1974 Letter from Julius Koleszar - page 1
Košice December 12, 1974
Dear Pista (Steve) Beverlyke (little Beverly) and your whole family, and all of the relatives who live in America. To all of you we wish from deep in our hearts a God blessed Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. And most importantly, we wish you good health. Our dear little Pista and little Beverly, how are you doing? Have you gotten ill? I wrote to you and Bellus Ilonka during Eastertime, and I did not receive a response from anyone. I am quite worried that one of our relatives has a problem. We are not doing so well ourselves. *Uncle Julius (Gyula bácsi) is already over 83 years old and recently he has been feeling ill, he is so weak. This Autumn was so difficult with a lot of cold rain, which is certainly quite harmful for the elderly. I am already 71 years old and my hands tremble a lot. As time passes, we become very weak. Gyuszi (nickname for Gyula) and his family will be doing fine, slowly but surely. Junior, little Gyuszi, had to get an operation for appendicitis . They are already taller than their father, they are just growing so fast. Peter finished 9th grade. He just started his Freshman year in High School, he has to study a lot, 3 languages: Slovakian, Hungarian, German and they attend a seperate English class. So, how are your kids doing? Write to us about them. You can write to us in English if you want. We can’t imagine why you wouldn’t write to us. It is already cold here, it is snowing and things are frozen over. Geez, I have said this already many times, *uncle Bellus Gyula passed away. Well, we do not have anyone to write to anymore. *Aunt Ilon can write in hungarian, why doesn’t she write? We know it is hard for her to forget *Uncle Gyula, but a long period of time helps you forget everything.
* The words bácsi and néni literally mean uncle and aunt. Hungarians use those words when talking about or to any older man or woman, so it is not clear whether or not these people are literally their aunts and uncles, or just elderly friends/family members.
[In all the letters the names Gyuszi are found, that is a nickname for Gyula]
