Jennety Broom was born in Glasgow, Scotland. She married Alexander Hill and bore him two children, William and Mary. Mary died as an infant. She was self supporting, working in the weavers factory. She was baptised into the Mormon church, her husband bitterly opposed. Leaving her husband, she left for America, bringing William with her. In 1846 she along with the other saints were driven out of Nauvoo. In Winter Quarters she married William Speirs and bore him a daughter. Both her husband(William Speirs) and the child died soon after. Jenetty then married Moses Vince and bore him two children, Betsy and Rebecca. Together they came across the plains to Salt Lake with her son William Hill in 1852. Moses died in 1859. In 1862 she married Abel Matthews, a widower, who had come across the plains with his son William. Rebecca Vince , her daughter by Moses Vince, and William Matthews married November 15, 1859
