      Egbert Sanders owned a lot in Flatbush ,Kings, N.Y., & sold it in 1661 & petitioned for land to erect a sawmill on a stream at "Gemoenepae" in Bergen Co. N.J. & move their families there. His young son Theunis was bap. in DRC of N.Y. in 1662, but later rec. are found in Bergen, N.Y. of mg.of child #2 & # 3.
      He lived in Fort Orange, Beverwyck, & Flatbush L.I. & Bergen N.J.

      His father could possibly be Govert Egbert who was probably the first immigrant of this name on Staten Island---perhaps the first who came to America, He came in the ship called the" Spotted Cow" in 1660. The first mention of the name in connection with Staten Island was Tunis, chr 9 Jul 1662, who bought land in 1698. His will, dated 6 Jul 1721, the son of Egbert Sanders.
