Documents | Obituary for Carrie Masecar MRS CARRIE HAGANS DIES AT HER HOME Widow of Monroe Druggist passes away in her sleep; Funeral Wednesday Mrs. Carrie Hagans, widow of Daniel Hagans, died at her home at 213 East Elm avenue sometime between midnight and 6 a.m. this morning. She was 70 years old. Mrs. Hagans has been in poor health for several years but suffered a severe setback on Friday. She was under the care of a physician from Friday night until her death. Sunday evening she seemed to become somewhat worse and her friends were concerned for her welfare but her physician thought at midnight she would recover. She went to sleep shortly after midnight and apparently died without waking again. She was found dead at 6 a.m. by her sister, Mrs. Lillius Raynor who has been living at the Hagans home. Carrie Masecar was born in Simcoe, Ontario, June 13, 1861. She came to Monroe in 1880, shortly after the removal here of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. A.J. Masecar. She was married to Mr. Hagans 45 years ago. Mr. Hagans, a prominent druggist, died 12 years ago at which time Mrs. Raynor came to live with Mrs. Hagans. There were no children. Mrs. Hagans lived in the Elm avenue home ever since it was built 33 years ago. She had a large number of friends here and was respected and beloved for her graciousness and her homelike charm and hospitality. For many years she had taken an active part in the work of St. Paul’s Methodist Episcopal Church. She was a charter member of the Ladies’ Aid Society and was always active in the work of the organization. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Funeral services at the home will be held Wednesday afternoon, probably at 2:30. The Rev. Frank H. Cookson, former pastor of St. Paul’s, will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodland cemetery. September 29, 1931 Services Are Held for Mrs. Hagans Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Hagans, widow of Daniel Hagans, were held at the home at 213 East Elm avenue Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. Frank H. Cookson, former pastor of St. Paul’s Methodist Episcopal Church, of which she was an active member; officiated. Burial was in Woodland cemetery. The pallbearers were L.W. Newcomber, Irving S. Harrington, Wilbur Ilgenfritz, Walter C. Peters, Judge Jesse H. Root and Dr. William F. Acker. Mrs. Hagans, who was 70 years old, died at her home Monday morning. A large number of friends from Monroe and out of the city attended the services. Left Estate of $15,000 An estate estimated at $15,000 was left by Mrs. Carrie Hagans of Monroe, in a petition filed in probate court yesterday to admit the will. Boyez Dansard is named executor. The petition lists the real estate at $10,000 and personal property at $5,000. Mrs. Hagans died at her home on East Elm avenue Monday morning.
