  According to the Texas Poll List for 1846 A. L. Brigance was living in Grimes County, Texas. Alfred Brigance was issued a class 3 certificate #396 for 320 acres in Nacogdoches, Robertson County, patent date 6 October 1849. Patent #530, volume 3. 1850 US Federal Census records Alfred Brigance in Grimes, Texas. A. L. Brigance was the Clerk of the District Court of Robertson County in 1855. (The Central Texian. (Anderson, Tex.), Vol. 1, No. 42, Ed. 1 Saturday, March 17, 1855) A.L. Brigance recorded as Chief Justice of Owensville, Texas at the first session 28 August 1856. 1860 US Federal Census records Alfred Brigance in Precinct 1, Robertson County, Texas A. L. Brigance enlisted in the 12 Infantry at age 39 in 1861 for the Confederate Army. 1880 US Census lists Alfred Brigance in Precinct 6, Robertson County, Texas, age 57, widowed and head of household.
