Aug 1997 letter from Kathy McCord: Wm Lewis Clark was said to have been a troublemaker on the wagon train. He shot at a man and tried to kill his bro Rufus. Rufus has just completed 3yr term in Pen, to which he was sent for killing a man in a quarrel in Portland winter of 1855-56. Both Rufus & man killed were mbrs of vol. co. passing thru Ptld.
