1858 Petition for Guardianship for Children of Jones Chapman 23 February 1858, Spartanburg County, South Carolina The minor children of Jones Chapman: William L, Louiza Catherine, Eliza, John, Sarah Caroline, and George W Chapman. Document 1: William L, Louiza Catherine, Eliza, and John Chapman are all over the age of consent (12 years old). They are entitled to a share of the estate of their grandfather, William Chapman. Because of their minority, there is no one authorized to receive their funds or look after their interests. They petition that J M Bowden may be appointed their guardian in chief, who will enter into a security bond. Document 2: Nancy Mary Ann Chapman petitions that Sarah Caroline and George W Chapman are minor children under the age of 12. They are entitled to a share of the estate of their late grandfather, William Chapman.
