"Jackson Eads died 3 Apr 1895 in Palouse City, Whitman, Washington; also obituary:
"Jackson Eads, a pioneer of the Palouse country, died at his home in this city early Wednesday of paralysis. He was in usual health Tuesday and attended the revival services in the evening remaining until the close and taking a very active part. Early the following morning he aroused his wife and complained of illness. Four hours later he succumbed to paralysis.
Jackson Eades was one of the pioneers of Palouse, having settled here in 1871. His younger days were spent in the states [Washington was a Territory], and while he always worked hard, he found time to acquire more than a common education. When he first reached this country, he settled on a farm near Kamiac Butte. In 1874 occurred the [Chief?] Joseph Indian War and Mr Eades took his family to Colfax for safety. While there, his daughter contracted the germs of diptheria. Shortly after their return to the ranch, the dread disease manifested itself and in a few days Mr Eades was left childless.
He moved to Lewiston, Idaho, where he remained a number of years. He then returned to Palouse and engaged in the milk and gardening business, afterwards conducting the city meat market.
Mr Eades was a very ernest Methodist and a living exponent of the fact that a sincere church worker may yet enjoy life. He always had a word and a joke for everybody.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon in the Methodist Church, conducted by Rev C. C. Cox, assisted by the pastors of the other churches in the city. The large attendance at the last sad rites demonstrated the high esteem in which Mr Eades was held by our people."
