Operated a grocery store at Quakake, Schuylkill,PA a few yrs, but worked as yardmaster for Lehigh Valley RR in Delano (Schuylkill Co) PA; md Effie V Eveland-6 children; dd 1938, 62y10m. "...a prosp merchant,commanding a good share of patronage in his town & adjacent territory. Business built up by conscientious attention to wants of customers, grown steadily from the beginning, his store now one of most popular trading places in that section. He was born 23 Sep 1875 Beaver Valley, belonging to old fam traced back several generations. Ulrich Michael bn Col Co, spent honorable life in agriculture & there died. Adam, sn of Ulrich, bn Beaver Valley-operated a farm & hotel until dth in 1841, bur in private graveyard on edge of farm in Beaver Valley. Manasseh bn Beaver Twp, mvd to Berks Co where md, a boatman on Schuylkill canal. Levi bn Berks Co, a merch Beaver Twp.
Harry M received education in public school, only one who mastered telegraphy, taking night turn at Quakake Stn when 14yrs. There 4 years, transferred Beaver Valley station-3yrs. Next at Hazleton Junction 2 1/2yrs, then station agent at Brandonville 2 yrs, then Ashland as ticket ag 3yrs, then Quakake in 1903. Also opened gen station, taking great pains stocking with wants of customers. Honorable, reliable in all transactions, good executive ability, handled business well, deserves prosparity which rewarded him. Stands high in regard of fellow citizens, chosen as road treasurer for 5 yrs. Member of Brotherhood & Improved Order of Heptasophs, active in latter.
