"Private Memorial Services to be Held for Gordon Gavitt - Gordon L. Gavitt, age 87, of Dushore, PA, formerly of Towanda, passed asay on Monday, February 21, 2000 at the Williamsport Hospital, Williamsport.
Gordon was born in Laporte Township on March 10, 1912, son of the late Morgan and Alda Buck Gavitt. He graduated from the Sonestown High School, a member of the Class of 1928 and graduated from Mansfield University in 1931.
Gordon married the former Florence Emory of New Albany in 1933. She predeceased him on April 10, 1974. Gordon taught school in East Towanda for 9 years and then began working at the U. S. Post Office in Towanda. He retired as the Superintendent of Mails in 1971 after 30 years of service.
He was a member of the Towanda Rod and Gun Club and B.P.O.E. #2192, Towanda. He enjoyed bird watching and was an avid reader.
Surviving are 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Lucille and Paul Muller of Dushore and Laura and Bill Bohensky of Dushore, 4 grandchilden, Benjamin Muller, Brighton UT, Elizabeth Shaffer, Columbia Cross Roads, Christina Bohensky, Dushore, Sheena Bohensky, Dushore; 2 great-grandchildren, Jeremy Shaffer, Dushore and Melissa Shaffer, Columbia Cross Roads; a brother-in-law and his spouse, Frank and Cora Emory, Monroeton; 2 sister-in-laws, Nine Martin, Hawthorne FL and Emma Emory, East Towanta; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Mark Muller on September 28, 1981 and by 5 brothers, Gilbert Gavitt, Harmon Gavitt, Blake Gavitt, Lee Gavitt and Jarius Gavitt and 2 sisters Millicent Stackhouse and Freeda Armes.
A private memorial service will be held at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be directed to the Dushore Fire and Ambulance Association, PO Box 1, Dushore PA 18614."
