HIST: Descendants of John & Abigail Thurlo, pg 5-5: "... the couple lived in a tenant house on the farm until after the death of his parents when he moved into the main house, which he later owned.
In reality, Paul was an eccentric (possibly a bit reclusive), as he preferred to continue the old ways of living rather than take advantage of progress. He spurned the "new-fangled" electical stuff and continued to live without refrigeration or other appliances available at that time. He did conceed to having a telphone though.
Paul was a jovial man and seemed to enjoy "his" way of life (his wife Mary seemed to cope). He refused to wear dress clothes. His idea of dress clothes was a pair of bib overalls and a suit coat, even on his 50th Wedding Anniversary. He wouldn't let anyone take pictures of him. He, like most of the Thurlos of the time, enjoyed growing a good garden and loved flowers. They left no heirs. Both buried Wharton Cemetery, Carroll Co, MO."
