SEPARATION: Feb 1956 letter from Thelma Burden to Mary Gray Marks, Eads doc #14: "Uncle Bill and his wife were separated as far back as I can remember. Uncle Bill had very little companionship with his son Melvin. Too bad as he was the only child..."
Sep 1955 letter from Ola Syron Johnson, Eads doc #98: "We went to see Mrs Burden but found out afterward that she and her husband had been separated many years not divorced. She had made her home with her son Melvin. He never married... said a relative of her husband lived at the county farm near Moscow..."

My husband Homer hunts and fishes with Melvin a great deal. Aunt Maggie is failing rapidly and when she goes Melvin will be helpless as she has been the boss all these years...
In spite of everything, Melvin was sure good to his daddy all the time and he has a lovely marker [grave stone]. Melvin is about the same age as my brother Emery."
