Hester Lorea Gilliam, 96, of Chattanooga, Tn. died on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in a local health care facility.
A native of Albertville, Ala., she was the daughter if the late Joel and Cludie Mae Cranford.
Mrs. Gilliam was a longtime employee of United Hosiery Mill. She was a passionate gardener and longstanding member of Summit Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Gilliam and a daughter Jacqueline Berry.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Lisa Berry; brothers, Rev. Dairrell Cranford and Milford Cranford; sister, Ruth Hall and several nieces and nephews.
The family will gather with friends at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, for a graveside ceremony conducted by Mrs. Gilliam's brother, Reverend Dairrell Cranford.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Hamilton Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 4506 Hixson Pike at Hamill Road, Hixson, Tn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Sanders.

Olen Berney Cranford of Springville departed this life August 28, 2004 after a lengthy illness.
He is survived by Hazel Cranford, his wife of 49 years; and two sons, Joel Cranford of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Garland Cranford of Saratoga Springs, Utah; their wives; and eight grandchildren.
Born January 18, 1923 in Albertville, Alabama as one of twelve children. He was raised on a farm during the Great Depression, graduated from school in Tennessee, and joined the military in World War II.
He served in both the Army and Navy and fought in Eu-rope under General George Patton. In the postwar years, he married Hazel Cranford of Chattanooga, Tennessee; had two sons and worked for NASA for 20 years, helping America put a man on the moon.
During his lifetime, he was active in the LDS Church, many civic organizations, the Boy Scouts of America, was a Civil Air Patrol pilot, a Golden Gloves boxing champion, and an avid sports fan.
Burial services will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2004, 2 p.m. at Camp Williams Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 17111 South Camp William Road in Bluffdale, UT. Condolences may be sent to www.wheelermortuary.com

Mr. Cranford was born in Lincoln County, TN on August 6, 1929 to the late Joel Franklin & Cludie Pearl Allen Cranford. He was retired from NASA and Fox Army Hospital. He was talented in repairing things and was known as "Mr. Fix-It".
