The two brothers built a house on the property and returned to Sullivan to move Silas' family to their new home. The family; Silas, wife Ann, and daughters Amanda and Belle made the move in a covered wagon. Silas' younger brother, Columbus, may have accompanied them, returning because of his
wife's objections to the "new country.
A short time later, Silas and Hank sold that farm to the Kinnamans... and bought another farm on the nearby "Prairie." This farm is known as the Thurlo Farm. Hank later married and the brothers divided the 160 acres into 2-80 acre farms.
Life around their home was pleasant. Silas demanded respect from his children and taught them to be resourceful and to carry out their ambitions. Everyone had a special project for the summers when school was out.
Ann said she enjoyed the prairie country except when she needed a switch to correct one of the children. Silas planted a grove of Sugar Maple trees, which grew to provide the switches, as well as sweets for the family later. That grove is still reported to be there..."
