"Some Newbury Thurlows and Their Descendants:" birth was recorded in Rowley and his name was Thomas.
"Descendants of John and Abigail Thurlo:" "his name is John Thomas Jr. Emmett Thurlo: DAR records seem to verify it.

NOTES: "Newbury Thurlows.. There were no Thomas Thorla's of military age, other than the above, and there were none as well who were descendants of Francis Tharlay, son of Richard. It is reasonable to conclude, therefore, that this Thomas Thorla is the one mentioned below in "Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolutionary War", a compilation from the Archives, prepared and published by the Sec of the Commonwealth 1907.
1775: "Thomas Thurlo - Newburyport; Private, Lieut John Brickett's troop of horse, which marched April 20, 1775 in response to the alarm of April 19, 1775 to headquarters at Cambridge; service 4 days; reported returned home."
1777: "Thomas Thurlo - Corporal, Capt John Noyes' Co, Col. Samuel Johnsons regt; entered service Aug 14, 1777; discharged Nov 30 1777; service 3 mos. 28 days in Northern department, incl 12 days (240 mil.) travel home."
1779: "Thomas Thorla - Corporal, Capt. Stephen Jenkin's Co., Capt Jacob Gerrish's rgt; entered Oct 14, 1779; discharged Nov 22, 1779; service, 1 mo. 20 days at Claverack, including travel (240 mil) home; regiment detached from militia of Suffolk and Essex Cos. to reinforce army under Gen. Washington."
"OUR ANCESTOR OF THE WAR OF THE REVOLUTION" - "Descendants.." pg 26: This information was copied from a membership application to the DAR submitted by Joan S Billington (Mrs Charles Alfred), Hackberry Hill, 2528 Central Park, Topeka, KS 66611. It was approved and assigned Nat'l #387091. (can be used for any female descendant's application of John and Abigail who wish to be a mbr) Joan is a descendant of John's brother Benjamin, who married Jane Dyer.
1775-1776: Application information: Thomas Thurlow (Thorla) Private under Capt Jacob Gerrish, Col Moses Little's Regiment, enlisted at Cambridge, Mass 1 Jun 1775 and served until Apr 1776. He was in Battle of Bunker Hill.
1776-1777: Enlisted: Newbury, Mass 1 Oct 1776-1 Apr 1777, Capt Paul Moody Co, Col Timothy Pickering Regiment.
1777: Enlisted Newbury Mass Aug 1777-Nov 1777, Cor Capt John Noyce Co, Col Johnson Regiment-Battle of Stillwater.
1778: Enlisted Newbury Mass 24 Jul 1778-six months,Capt Wm Roger Co, Col Wadsworth Regiment.
1779: Enlisted Newbury Mass 10 Jul 1779-3 months, Corp in Capt Stephen Jenkin Co, Col Jacob Gerrish Mass. Regiment.
His name appears in the Lexington Alarm Roll of 19 Apr 1775, from Newbury to Cambridge. REFS: Vol S.3790 Rev and 1812 War Section; Vol 15 Pg 680-712 Soldiers and Sailors; Hist of Newbury Mass, pg 588, 609; DAR app also verified by another application, #270421 (not have a copy and know nothing of contents).
1820 CENSUS: OH,Morgan Co-Olive Twp: #084; MG: IGI ext Newbury, Essex Co MASS, MG M500321, 1849-823653
1828 HISTORY: "Descendants..." pg 14. Three of his sons went west to Ohio and he and his wife followed about 1828, arriving in Marietta, Washington Co, Ohio. He lived in Olive some years and died 1835.
1835 DEATH: OH: John Thomas Thorla died 22 Dec 1835
