  		1913 Newspaper Article for Edward Meaken 28 June 1913, Newark Evening Star Edward Meaken, of 373 Ogden Street, was charged with neglecting his children. The complaint was made by William Ryan, an agent for the Catholic Chrildren's Aid Society. Children: Mary (age 14), Francis (age 9), Edward, (age 6), Leo (age 5), and Catherine (age 2 1/2).   		1913 Newspaper Article for Edward and May Meaken 1 July 1913, Newark Evening Star May Meaken, only 13/14 years old, appeared in court against her father, Edward Meaken. Mrs. Edward Meaken died one year ago, leaving 4 children (ages 2 to 13). They lived on 373 Ogden Street. Edward started to drink, leaving the children neglected. May took care of the children, eventually having to give up school. John A Cullen, of the Catholic Children's Aid Society, had an investigation made of the family. In court, Edward sobbed, "I am guilty. My only regret is that I never sent the kids to school." Edward Meaken was sentenced to 1 year in the penitentiary.
