Henry G LePage, county recorder, was born at the eastern edge of Jefferson City 10 Mar 1900. He attended grade school in this city and graduated from high school in 1918. Following his graduation, he worked on his father's farm. Following the death of his father in 1920, he remained on the farm with his mother until elected county recorder in 1926. Before reaching legal age, he became active in farm organization work and was elected secretary-treasurer of the Cole County Farm Bureau in 1920, remaining 6 yrs in that office. He is a member of Methodist Church, Knights of Pythias lodge and United Commercial Travelers. He has served 5 years as Director of Chamber of Commerce and is a director of Jefferson City Building and Loan Association and President of the Hub City Building and Loan Association.
Mr LePage was married September 3, 1927, to Miss Elora Wagner of a well know Jefferson City pionee family. They have four sons and one daughter. John Henry is nine years old, Paul W-7yrs, Thomas E-5yrs, Julian F-3, daughter Elora Rosalin was born January 1938.
The LePage family has been in Jefferson City for about a 100 years. John E LePage, the father of Henry G, was born Jefferson City, MO 4 April 1859, in a house which still stands at the southwest corner of St Mary's Hospital grounds. Upon reach manhood,to the end of his life, 25 Feb 1920, he was a plastering contractor. He served as city councilman and as judge of the county court. John E LePage was married June 14, 1899, to Miss Nathalia C Henry who was born on a farm eat of Jefferson City.
The father of John E LePage was born 28 May 1818 at LeMans, France, and came to the United States in 1838. He was a stone mason and plasterer by occupation. He married Elizabeth Jane Ross in Jefferson City and lived here until his death in 1885. His wife was born at Jeffersonville, Indiana, July 10, 1833, came to Cole County in 1843 and diedMay 30, 1916. She was the daughter of William and Nancy Ross, the former being the son of John and Peggy Ross of White County, Tennessee. Mrs Nancy ross was the daughter of George and Mary Rains. Sghe was born in Campbell Couynty, Tennessee, January 8, 1810, and died in Jefferson City 21 Jul 1898. Her father served under Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812; her great-grandfathers under Washington in the Revolutionary War.
Mr LePage's mother was the daughter of Francis Henry who was born April 3, 1831, in the provice of Lorraine near Metz. He served 3 yrs in the Civil War. He was married to Josephine Placial who was born in Nancy, France, July 18, 1836, and came to the United States in 1865.
Henry G LePage has the unusual distinction for a Republican in this period of Cole County politics of being elected county recorder for three successive terms. In 1930 and again in 1934 he was the only Republican to be elected to office in this county."
