Thomas Purchase was the first settler at Pegypscot, (Brunswick,) probably as early as 1625 or 6. His companion was George Way. he lived on the southerly side of Stevens' River, near its head, and was engaged in the fur trade; was one of George's Council in 1635; afterwards sole assistant to mr, Prince, the Colony Commissioner, and in 1664 was a justice under Archdale. His house was plundered by the Indians in Sep 1675, when he left Pegypscot, and we know nothing of his return [Indian War Papers, Vol 1, p. 690]
Date of marriage to Elizabeth Andrews is suspect. Have not found any record and The Great Migration Begins only estimates marriage by about 1657.
