1908 August news clipping The Telegraph, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Saturday, 29 Aug 1908 Nambour Accident Station-master Killed Official Statement Reference was made in the "Telegraph" yesterday afternoon to the accident which happened to Mr. Charles Heers, station-master at Nambour, and which resulted in his death. The accident happened about 12:40 p.m., when the ___ train from Brisbane to Gympie was leaving the Nambour station. Dr. Penny was called in and the injured man was removed to his home, where the leg was amputated. He died, however, shortly after 6 p.m. Mr. Heers was about 35 years of age and leaves a widow and four children. According to the official report, based on statemetns made by the porter of Nambour, and guard and driver of the train, it appears that the train had been absenting, preparatory to leaving the station. As it was being drawn to the platform, Heers stepped out to hand the driver the ___ and to obtain the staff tickets. He tripped over an egg-case which was on the platform and fell between the platform and the wheels of the moving train. One or two wheels passed over his left leg. The train moved from 30 to 35 feet after Heers fell. source: www.newspaperarchive.com | ||
