Tombstone baseball team Photo caption reads: Tombstone residents became early baseball enthusiasts. The man in the top hat is Robert "Sandy Bob" Crouch, a native of Ohio, who started a Tombstone stage business in 1880 and ran stagecoaches to Bisbee and Fairbank. In 1883 he bought the Gordon Ranch and put his son in charge until Apache raids forced the sale of the property. Sandy Bob also supplied wood to the Copper Queen Company in Bisbee. In 1895, Crouch moved to Mexico City and died at Guadalajara on September 10, 1908. (Courtesy Arizona Historical Society) | ||
Tombstone Arizona baseball team, 1895 The 1895 Tombstone baseball team was coached by Bob Crouch, also known as "Sandy Bob" (center). He was the proprietor of the Arizona Mail and Stage Line with its office at 406 Allen Street under the Occidental Hotel. He made $50 a day and bought a ranch outside of town. In Guadalajara on September 11, 1908 at 9:45 am before the judge that Benjamin Poleles, single, employed said that yesterday at 4 pm in the house number one on the street "de la Joya" Mr. Robert Crouch passed away from age and complications with diarrhea. He was 86 years old and originally from the United States, the declarer does not know his parents' names. He will be buried in the Municipal Cemetery.
