1915-16 HIST: "In The Footsteps of the Pioneers, 1862-1962," by Will M Kidwell, Ed.D., Pg 239: "..the boys of the 9th grade organized a basketball team and practiced and played games in the upstairs of the Sturtevant Building. They later played the men from Stewart Creek, School Dist 77 and were badly beaten. The ceilings were so low...only way one could make a basket was to use the backboards. School Dist 77 men's team was led by Jess Porter who had been a star athlete at Pendleton High School.
Pg 312: "The Porter Bros--Sam, Bill and Jesse all were md and lived east of PR in a radius of 4-5 miles from town. They were all farmers. It is estimated that they came to the Basin around 1900. Sam and Jesse lived on Stewart Creek, Bill on Porter Gulch.
Pg 361: "Joe Arbuckle homestead...sold to Elery Michael. Later Sam Porter rented the land to raise horses on it.."
