John was the 3rd son of Capt. Johannis DeBow and Jannetje Van Ness.
His age at death is recorded as 61y 8m.
His will, in which he refers to himself as "John Debow, Esquire", was proved 6 Nov 1841. John DeBow had served as a Justice for Morris Co. 1832 & 1837 thereby earning the right to add Esquire to his name.
In his will, he names all his children by his two wives.
His first wife was Sara Drummond daughter of William Drummond & Annaetye Spier.
With Sara he had:
John b. 2 Nov 1800 (wf Hester Jacobus)
William b. 22 Dec 1803
Maria b. 26 Dec 1806 (h James H. Mandeville)
Garret b. 19 Mar 1809 d. 12 Oct 1820
Jane b. 28 Aug 1814 d. 22 Nov 1840 (h Nicholas Mandeville)
Wife Sara died 15 Jan 1820. John then married Leah Blauvelt nee Demarest, the widow of John Blauvelt with whom he had two daughters:
Catherine b. 21 Aug 1821 (h Abraham Van Duyne)
Sarah b. 09 Jun 1825 (h William H. Cochran)
Burial location data refers to the lot # given in 1931 by Edwin A. Doremus when he recorded the cemetery. Since the church records were destroyed in the fire of 24 Oct 1937, it may not be possible to know what the original church assigned lot numbers were.
