2451 1864 BIRTH: MO,Sullivan Co: Mahala Amanda Thurlo was born November 8, 1864, first child of Silas and Ann Elizabeth Smith Thurlo, became known as "Linc," being born same day as Abraham Lincoln was elected. Also called Amanda.

1864-1884 HIST: Descendants of John and Abigail Thurlo pg 5-2: "When Amanda 3 yrs old, father bought farm in Carroll County. Farm, apparently in a forested area, was sold and they moved to another area on plains.
Being the oldest child, and a girl, Amanda grew to accept the responsibility of being their "second mother". She helped do the cooking and housekeeping chores and when her father bought a new sewing machine one day was assigned the distinction of being the only one of the children to use it. This assignment filled her with pride for she felt she was being rewarded for her past efforts.

She apparently liked to travel, for she accompanied her husband on buying trips and attended the Worlds Fair of Chicago in 1893..."
