1012 | (1) He was baptized at the N.Y. Dutch Reformed Church 23 Dec 1705. NYG&B rec. 974.7 B4ne Vol. 2 p. 313. No death date is found for him in N.Y.City nor in Staten Island where he lived and raised his family. His marriage probably took place on Staten Island where his wife, Cornelia Corssen, daughter of Christian Corssen & his wife Antje Gerretse Croesen lived. The probability is that the marriage was recorded on Staten Island, c. 1727, but the early church records are not extant, the earliest marriage being 1764 in the Moravian Church & 1754 in St. Andrews Episcopal Church. 1013 | (1) He appears as a sml. child in the 1706 census of Staten Island under the name of Martin or Marino (Marino or Martino is Italian for Martineau), found in Gen. & Hist Mics. Vol.1 by J.E. Stillwell p. 150. Will dated 13 Apr 1779 & Will proven 4 Aug 1779, thus the last date used as his death date.-- Abstracts of N.Y. Wills as published by New York Historical Society. Stephen was probably born on the old Dorp Farm near the Northeastern shore of Staten Island. No birth or bap. record has been found for him. Probable reasons are the same as for his father Stephen Martineau. Things get a little confusing in this line for in 1779 there were three Stephen's living on Staten Island: This Stephen(c. 1701-1779 , then about age 75+; Stephen (1727-1801) then about age 52; And Stephen (1761-1822) then age 18. . | Martineau, Stephen (I138)

(7) His wife Catherine is listed p. 425. Her information is also given in NYG&B rec. Vol. 94 p.134-7 (8) NYG&B rec. Vol. 94, p. 235, "On 28 Mar 1698, Pieter Coursen, the second husband of Catherine Van der Beek, conveyed for 250 ,a tract of 180 acres on Lubbertsen's Neck in Kings County, N.Y., to Cornelis Sebring (Kings Co. Deeds:2:164). This Cornelis was the husband of Aeltje, daughter of Frederick Lubbers &Tryntje, Pieters mother, as Frederick had married Pieter's widowed mother in 1657, the two men, Pieter & Cornelis, could be called brothers-in-law, as indeed they were so called in the following: "On Aug 19 1689, John Marsh of New Jersey, entered into an agreement with Pieter Corssen & his brother-in=law, Cornelis Sebring, for the erection of a water mill to be built upon the meadows of Corssen & Sebring" (Ibid:1:271). This crucial item is cited by Orville Corson in "Three Hundred Years with the Corson Families in America, 1929, v. 1, p. 52, & Somerset County Historical Quarterly, v. 3, p. 120. In return for this deed Cornelis Sebring gave a bond, dated 20 Mar 1698, in which he promised to support Pieter Corssen as long as he should live. This document is good evidence, as the compiler of the Corson Families admits, that there was no surviving child of Pieter Corssen Vroom in 1698. | Corssen, Pieter (I526)

Her place of death & abt. death date listed in (3) (7) gives this information:" Margaret Stuyvesant Backer was a half sister of Governor Peter Stuyvesant & quite a noted character. Jacob Backer, her husband was a prosperous Merchant in New York. He resided on the East side of Broad St. near Beaver St. & adjoining his store. He was Schepen for several years & held in high esteem. He went over to Holland in 1660 & left his business here in charge of his wife. Margaret, returning only accassionally ( the Govenor using him as an emissary on several of his trips abroad) After the English conquest he returned once or twice more to Holland & seems after 1669 not to have come back. It was reported that he died in the East Indies. His property was heavily mortgaged to Jean Cousseau, who foreclosed in 1670. Baltthazar de Hart, a wealthy merchant purchased the property in Oct 1670, at a public sale. As the sequel shows, he had become quite intimate with widow Backer. He died the next year 1672 & having never md., left the most of his estate to his 3 brothers Daniel, Matthius & Jacob, having first made provision for his natural son, Matthius; And bequeathed to his" natural son Daniel de Hart, procreated by Margaret Stuyvesant, the house & lot then occupied by him and Elias Provost Smith," &" two great stilling kettles; also 600 guilders wampum annually; of all which the mother was to have the use until their son, Daniel (who had been baptized, 1 Sep 1671) should come of age. Among the Albany records is a petition, dated 29 Apr 1776, of Margaret Stuyvesant, for an examination of her account against the estate of the late Balthazar de Hart, with whom she was engaged to be married, & who in his lifetime made use of her estate.( In the History of Elizabeth, New Jersey p. 248) A petition to the court by Margaret Backer setting forth that her husband Jacob Backer, about 8 years since, departed from her, leaving her with 3 small children, in a very poor condition, without making any pro-vision for payment of his debts or for the maintenance of his family. She very much doubts his life, not having in several years had any letter or advice from him, but various reports from Holland to the Easr Indies." Upon her petition letters of Administration were granted 27 Jul 1677 (8) Abstractsof N.Y. (5) His death 1655 (ae 43) is given in "300 years with the Corson Family in America" by Orville Corsen p. 31, 34, 43, 44, 52, 53, 54. His place of residence listed also.(6) Early Settlers of Kings Co. by Teunis Bergen, 974 723 D2b p.382-3 The three sons of Cors lived with their mother & her second husband Frederick Lubberts( Md. bet 17 Aug & Oct 13 1657) after their father died. As no mention is found in the record, of the two dau's. Elsje & Greitje, it may be assumed they had died before the death of their father in 1655. On 11 Mar 1666, an interesting wedding occured; Cornelis Corssen, the eldest son of Cors & Tryntie Hendricks, married Marritje Jacobs van der Grift, the eldest child of Jacob van der Grift & Rebecca Fredericks, the daughter of Frederick Lubbertsen & Styntje Jans. The son of Tryntje Hendricks married the granddaughter of her second husband. Thus it was that the descendants of Cornelis Corssen are descended maternally not only by marriage but by direct descent from Frederick Lubbertsen.
