On her father's side Elizabeth was a great-grandaughter of John Drake, who was one of the Council of Plymouth, and a member of the Company established by King James in 1606, for settling New England.

Early Records of Windsor, Conn.. lists John Drake as one of the "First Settlers of Windsor, as recorded in the Town records of 1640, five years after their removal from Dorchester."
His will dated 12 Sep 1689, proved 11 Nov , 1689. lists all 12 of his children listed on p. 6-7 of "The Descendants of John Drake".
In the "Windsor, Conn., Land Records, Vol. 3, p. 55." is written: Mar . 3, 1706/7 Joseph Loomis, Sen,. son of Joseph deceased, Nicholas Buckland and James Loomis, all of Windsor, Conn., deed 271/2 acres of woodland to Daniel Loomis, Sen., part of a lot bought by "our father-in-law John Drake deceased," of Richard Lyman, and given to his three daughters, Lydia, late wife of Joseph Loomis, above, Elizabeth, late wife of Nicholas Buckland, and Mindwell, wife of James Loomis, by his last will.

The Connecticut settlement "was in a frightfully exposed position. isolated with no more than 250 men capable of bearing arms. It lay within reach of as many as 5,000 fighting barbarians: 1,00 of them, two days march to the Eastward. Pequots, most warlike of all."(See Makers of America-- John Winthrop-Twitchell, page 170). 30 men were levied in Windsor (History of Windsor, Vol 1, pp. 67-68) Windsor also furnished 6 suits of Armour, 60 bushels of corn, 50 pieces of Pork, 30 # of rice & 4 cheeses.
The corn was to be ground & 1/2 baked into biscuits The expedition had a hoghead of beer, some strong water & sack. Capt. John Mason of Windsor led the expedition and a decisive battle was fought May 26 1637. (The extermination of the Pequots was dictated by the imperious instinct of self-preservation) A grant of land was also given to each soldier, and to this day, the memory of an ancestor in the Pequot fight is anhonorable heirloom in every Connecticut family.
