Ancient Windsor Vol. 2, pt. 1; N.Y. Gen & Biog. Record, Conn. N2b, Vol. 10; Coe-Ward Memorial; Am. Pub. H. Vol. 5, p. 225; V. 50, A10B65, p. 1710-11.; Norwich Parish Reg.(Eng.) New England Reg. 1928 (roll of Arms)
Record of Marriage and Births, in Windsor, Ct., lists 6 of his children & his death date, 1 Sep 1674 " nere 100 yer ould" (but actually eighty-seven),[Grant 35; also CTVR 28] In Early Records of Windsor,Ct Vol 5, p. 365 Bigot is listed as one of the "First Settlers of Windsor, as recorded in the Town Records of 1640, five years after their removal from Dorchester."
He was born in Settrington,Yorkshire,Eng. in 1586, and then about 1610 accompanied or followed other members of family to Norwich, Norfolk. The last record for him at Norwich is the baptism of his dau, Mary on 19 Jan 1613/14. He then showed up in 1630 at Dorchester, which has led many to place him on the MARY & JOHN. If he were on this ship one would expect him to have come from one of the West County counties of Devon, Dorset or Somerset, but we have no record for him anywhere from 1615 to 1630.. Was the Yorkshire & Norfolk man the same as the Bigod Eggleston of Dorchester & Windsor ? There is at this time no certain evidence, but the age of the New England man is in accord with the bap. date in Settrington, the Yorkshire-Norfolk man had father & son named James while the Windsor man had son James; and no other man by the name of Bigod Eggleston has been found in England. (Great Migrations, bottom of 2nd pg. & top of p. 3.)
Bigod Eggleston is in Matthew Grant's list of those who had been members of the church in orchester, moved to indsor with arham, and remained in the church at Windsor. [Grant 9]
