    Adonijah Schuyler and Elizabeth Bogert also had a son, Cornelius Schuyler, who married Antje (Ann) Merselis, daughter of Cornelius Merselis and Marritye Post. Ann Merselis descended from Jan Merselis, born 1500, and N.N. Van Der March to Pieter Mersellis, born 1600. Pieter, the first of the family in New Netherlands, represented Russia in the Court of Denmark and is buried under the Preakness Reformed Church on Church Lane in Preakness (Wayne).

    Pieter removed from New Amsterdam to Bergen, where he died in 1682. His daughter, Jannetje Pieterse Mersellis, married Hellemeg Roelofse Van Houten, born in Rensselaerswyck, N.Y., and held land in Preakness. Pieter’s daughter, Nessje Pieters Mersellis, married Gerrit Gerrisen Van Wagoner and moved from Bergen to Preakness. Cornelius Schuyler and Ann Merselis are interred within a few yards of Adoniah Schuyler in the Pompton Reformed Church Cemetery, Pompton Lakes.

    It was he in all probability who in 1737 and 1752 was enrolled among the members of the Church of Pompton. His grandfather Arent, it is said, gave him a tract of land above Pompton lying on the north side of the Furnace(?) Pond and on which is the beautifully located residence of the late Cornelius Schuyler.
